Ivana Vrhovac Madunić co-author of publication in Nature Aging

Ivana Vrhovac Madunić, from the Division of Toxicology at the Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Health, co-authored the article “A consensus roadmap from the SENESCENCE2030 network towards precision senescence medicine”, published on 3 September 2026 in the prestigious journal Nature Aging.

The publication draws on discussions at the SENESCENCE2030 Annual Conference, held in Coimbra, Portugal, in May 2026, within COST Action CA23119 SENESCENCE2030.

The authors present a consensus roadmap for translating advances in cellular senescence research into clinical practice. The authors place particular emphasis on distinguishing functional senescent states, developing standardized and clinically applicable biomarkers, and advancing precision medicine targeting senescence. The publication also highlights the importance of international collaboration and aligning research with clinical and regulatory requirements.
