Outline of course content
The purpose of this course is to introduce students with some of the problems that may arise in managing air quality, which certainly requires a scientific approach. Monitoring air quality demands the introduction of new methods for analysing air pollution, a better control of the quality of measurements, and the harmonisation of measurement networks for the monitoring of air. The obtained results serve to draft strategies for improving air quality without endangering the principle of sustainable development. Within this course, students will learn about the significance of specific air pollutions with regard to development and energy sources, as well as the traits of air pollutants while they are in the air, including their physical and chemical shifts and cyclic changes (daily, weekly, and annual). Students will get insight into the monitoring of air quality, approaches to monitoring, sampling strategies, measurements, modelling, processing and interpreting data with regard to imission and emission border values. Students will also study how to rate air quality and categorize a measuring site in accordance with current legislation, as well as how to implement protection measures and strategies for improving air quality.
